Le développement de l’archéologie urbaine, en particulier dans le contexte préventif, a permis la découverte, parfois imprévue, et la fouille de nombreux édifices cultuels, situés au cœur des villes médiévales. Parmi ceux-ci, les bains rituels, profondément enfouis pour capter des nappes phréatiques, et, donc relativement bien préservés sous les constructions ultérieures, sont nombreux.
The development of urban archaeology, especially in the context of preventive archeology, has been responsible for the (sometimes accidental) discovery and excavation of numerous religious buildings situated at the heart of medieval towns. Of all these buildings the ritual baths are the most numerous, buried deep in the ground to collect ground water and therefore relatively well-preserved under subsequent constructions.
