Recherches archéologiques

The "Recherches archéologiques" collection publishes, for the scientific community, monographs and syntheses resulting from preventive archeology operations carried out by Inrap. These works are distinguished by the major character of the sites studied, their innovative aspect in methodological or scientific terms, or the size of the territory taken into account.

Directed by Yves Lanchon and Françoise Bostyn
An Inrap-CNRS Editions co-publication

The site of Luzancy, a few kilometers north of the city of La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, located in a meander of the Marne River, yielded a large quantity of Early Neolithic remains (around 5000 BC). Five Danubian type houses form an organized village. The artefacts uncovered enable a reconstruction of the varied crafts activities linked to the procurement and processing of diverse materials, local and imported (pottery, flint industry, stone rings, sandstone, shells, etc.), and contribute to our knowledge of the agricultural practices and animal herd management strategies. This study completes and enriches our knowledge of the culture and chronology of the Early Neolithic in the Paris Basin, and the Marne Valley in particular.
