Before the construction of the Seine-North of Europe waterway under the technical direction of the Voies navigables de France, and curated by the State (Drac), the French National Institute of Archaeological Research (Inrap) is carrying out a programme of archaeological evaluations, the most extensive at present in Europe.

Discoveries
The French archaeological mission to the United Arab Emirates, including CNRS and INRAP searchers, and the museum of the Umm al-Quwain Emirate (UAE) have recently discovered the oldest sanctuary in Arabia (3500-3200 BC), as well as the oldest known ceremonial site dedicated to a very particular marine mammal, the dugong (Dugong dugon).
These results have just been published in the international review Antiquity.

Discoveries
An Inrap team has just excavated a Gallic cemetery in Attichy in the Oise. This excavation, curated by the Regional Archaeological Service (Drac Picardie), prior to the exploitation of a quarry of aggregates, has above all brought to light the graves of two eminent Celtic personages.

Discoveries
An excavation on the rue de Rivoli is currently uncovering the first Medieval city fortifications of Paris. Curated by the State (Drac Île-de-France), this excavation by an Inrap team has found a deep ditch on land isolated among a group of buildings.

In 2004, François Gentili, Inrap archaeologist and specialist of seigniorial dwellings, explored the 17th century ice-houses of what was once the château of Baillet-en-France.

A team of archaeo-anthropologists from the Conseil Général of Seine-Saint-Denis and Inrap, is at present excavating a funerary ensemble dating from the Early Middle Ages in Noisy-le-Grand.

Discoveries
Inrap archaeologists are at present excavating two important sites in the historical centre of Reims. Curated by the Regional Archaeological Service (Drac Champagne-Ardenne) they add decisively to our knowledge of the history of Reims which, during the Gallo Roman period, was one of the most important towns of the Roman Empire, covering more than 600 hectares.
