Human being ? An archeology of the origins

International conference, Friday 9 and Saturday 10 November 2018, at the Muséum de Toulouse.

International conference "Human being ? An archeology of the origins" by Jean-François Toussaint, Institute of Medical Research and Epidemiology in Sports (IRMES)

We, as humans, are concurrently reaching all our ceilings: in sports, health, the economy, science, research, and the list goes on. It has been 30 years since humanity made any progress, whether in maximum size, maximum life span, sporting records, or energy per capita. Any enthusiastic young researcher can observe this from the facts. Our future hinges in particular on a number of sources of global turmoil, of which the climate is only one of many facets. Humanity is seeing a possible end to its growth and, needing to believe in the impossible, is reaching out for new hope.

Jean-François Toussaint, Professor of Physiology at University of Paris Descartes. A Harvard Fellow, he directs the IRMES Research Institute. As a member of the IPCC, he created the Adaptation and Prospective Group of the French High Council on Public Health to analyse the prevention of emerging risks; he published the report “Health impacts of the climate change adaptation strategy”, and conceived of and co-organised the colloquia “Can man adapt to himself? ” (Museum and Collège de France), from which his work, “Can Humans accept their limits?” , is derived. French Champion and member of the French volleyball team
