An Inrap-CNRS Editions co-publication

This volume documents the key period between two moments in our history: the Bronze Age and the Second Iron Age.  Paradoxically, this period, the First Iron Age, which lasted nearly four centuries, had not yet benefited from updated or in-depth studies of habitat systems or modes of resource exploitation. However, the synthesis of data from national surveys conducted by INRAP has allowed us to distinguish notable changes in relation to the models initiated at the end of the Bronze Age, particularly north of the Loire ‒ the emergence of new grouped habitats, variously enclosed, associated with elevated storage buildings. This evolution was part of a new agropastoral organisation whose impact on the environment can be measured.

This work follows the publication of RA 7 "The rural dwelling of the Second Iron Age: Rhythms of creation and abandon north of the Loire" and RA 12 "Habitat and land use in the Bronze Age and early Iron Age".
