Recherches archéologiques

The "Recherches archéologiques" collection publishes, for the scientific community, monographs and syntheses resulting from preventive archeology operations carried out by Inrap. These works are distinguished by the major character of the sites studied, their innovative aspect in methodological or scientific terms, or the size of the territory taken into account.

Directed by Didier Paya and Jean Catalo
An Inrap-CNRS Editions co-publication

A vast medieval cemetery was discovered in Toulouse during preventative excavations at the site of the Palais-de-Justice metro station, the Cité Judiciaire and the Allées Paul-Fuega. Nine hundred tombs were studied, integrating anthropological, taphonomic, typological and chronostratigraphic elements. The aim of the authors in this publication is to go beyond the history of a neighborhood through archaeological discoveries, to consider the birth and development of a funerary zone then on the edge of the medieval city, and to draw conclusions on the evolution of the status of cemeteries, funerary practices and the populations inhumed.
