Le prince au torque d'or de Lavau

Unearthed by a team of Inrap archaeologists, the princely tomb of Lavau, dated to the early 5th century BC, contains exceptional grave goods: a Mediterranean bronze cauldron with lion heads and the head of Achelous (river-deity), an Attican oenochoe with black figures, a ciste, bronze basins, etc.

A team of archaeologists from Inrap, the CNRS, and the universities of Rennes 2 and Burgundy are currently conducting a research excavation of the Gallic oppidum of Mont Castel in Port-en-Bessin.

A combined team composed of archaeologists from the Ardennes departmental archaeology unit and from Inrap has just finished excavating the aristocratic Gallic grave at Warcq (Ardennes). Curated by the State (Drac Champagne-Ardenne), this site was part of the investigation of the route of the A304 motorway being constructed by the Dreal between Charleville-Mézières and Rocroi.

An Inrap team has just uncovered a Gallic necropolis from the 4th and 3rd centuries BC on the site of the Parc Logistique de l’Aube, at Buchères.

In Bayeux, on November 29 and 39, 2011, Inrap organized a round-table on "Settlement and land occupation during the Bronze Age and early Iron Age in France” to present the first results of a national survey devoted to this topic.

An Inrap team is at present excavating, curated by the State (Drac - Regional Archaeological Service,  Île de France), an important Gaulish site situated on the territory of the Paris Orly airport. This four-hectare site shows traces of occupation from the late Bronze Age (circa 800 BC) but is particularly interesting in revealing an important farm holding dating from the second century BC.

An Inrap team is currently conducting an excavation, under the curation of the State (DRAC Pays-de-la-Loire), of the future location of the Les Jacobins Cultural Center, a project directed by the city of Le Mans. The excavation will proceed in several phases in parallel with the construction work.
