Recherches archéologiques

The "Recherches archéologiques" collection publishes, for the scientific community, monographs and syntheses resulting from preventive archeology operations carried out by Inrap. These works are distinguished by the major character of the sites studied, their innovative aspect in methodological or scientific terms, or the size of the territory taken into account.

Edited by Fabrice Pons and Muriel Gandelin
An Inrap-CNRS Editions co-publication

Ditch and palisade sites are one of the most remarkable architectural manifestations of Middle Neolithic populations. The Chasséen occupation of Château-Percin in Seilh (Haute-Garonne), surrounded by two successive enclosure systems, has yielded several thousand remains of an elaborate earth and wood rampart. The violent fire that caused both the destruction and partial preservation of this exceptional evidence has allowed us to understand the architecture and implementation techniques of this monumental work, which are often assumed but rarely observed.
