The archaeology of violence: wartime violence, mass violence 
by Stefano Vassalo, Superintendent for archaeology of the region Sicily

Stefano Vassallo studied Classical Archaeology in Palermo and in Roma. Since 1987 he has been working as Soprintendenza of Palermo, where he's now managing the archaeological sector. He conducted a lot of excavations in several sites in the territory of Palermo, the principal are: 
  • Himera, investigations in the built-up area, at the agora, at the fortifications, at the necropolises.
  • Ippana, town of early ellenistic age in inland Sicily, where Vassallo discovered and explored the theatre and the fortifications
  • Kassar, excavations at the bizantine fortifications.
