Inrap has just completed five months of archaeological excavation at Entrains-sur-Nohain in advance of a private development project, curated by the State (Drac Burgundy). The 1000 m2 explored yielded part of the Antique town of Intaranum. The archaeologists unexpectedly discovered the remains of a mass grave, providing evidence of a massacre of a civil population.
The archaeological excavation of the suburb of Arroux, north of Autun, curated by the State (DRAC Bourgogne) in the context of a social housing project, has revealed an Antique quarter composed of craft workshops and fine residences.
An archaeological excavation carried out by order of the State (DRAC Bourgogne) to the north of Autun, in the context of a social housing project, has revealed to Inrap archaeologists an ancient habitation site. The earliest remains date from the start of the 1st century AD, when the town was founded. Autun was constructed by order of the first Roman Emperor, Augustus, (27 BC - 14 AD) and was named after him: Augustodunum.
Gevrey-Chambertin, located 12 km from Dijon, is world famous for its Burgundy wine. Viticulture has been practiced there since the Gallo-Roman period.
An object unique of its kind has been discovered in the Gallo-Roman town of Chevroches (Nièvre) during preventive excavations carried out by a team from the Institut national de recherches archéologiques preventives (Inrap). The Musée archéologique of Dijon in collaboration with Inrap is displaying this discovery until 28 January 2007.
