Discoveries
After five months, the preventive archaeological excavation conducted by Inrap on the future A3C building site, Saint-Symphorien street in Rheims, is reaching its end. Extending over 500 m2, the archaeological levels are more than 5 m deep and recount 2,000 years of continuous human occupation.

A team from the Institut National de Recherches Archéologiques Préventives (Inrap) is in the process of excavating a Roman quarter in the heart of the city of Metz. Curated by the State (Drac of the Lorraine region), the excavation of this vast site (15,000 m2) precedes the construction of a car park under the future Centre-Pompidou-Metz. This operation will employ at least fifteen archaeologists for a total of 5,300 working days, including post excavation analysis,. until February 2007.

Discoveries
In advance of work on line N° 2 of the Montpellier tramway, an excavation, curated by the Regional Archaeology Service, was carried out at Fontaine de Pila street by archaeologists from INRAP and the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (CNRS). Together, they discovered the oldest traces of human occupation in Montpellier, dating back to well before the creation of the city!

Discoveries
At the point where the Beauce and Gâtinais regions meet, a team of 60 Inrap archaeologists is currently excavating the site of the future A19 motorway between Artenay and Courtenay (Loiret). Curated by the Ministry of Culture (Drac région Centre), this research is financed by Arcour, the future motorway operator. Of the 1,300 hectares of land concerned, over 90% has already been explored. Among the one hundred or so sites identified, that of Neuville-aux-Bois has yielded numerous structures. Enclosures, ditches, insubstantial buildings and granaries have been excavated.

Discoveries
Inscribed in the landscape, menhirs and arrangements of upright stones make the Morbihan a favoured region for the study of megalithic monuments. The colossal forms of Carnac constitute the most emblematic example of this architecture, representing the Neolithic societies of the 5th to 3rd millennia BC. Today's breaking news today comes from Belz, where around 50 menhirs have recently been discovered.

The major Gallic and Gallo-Roman site of Parville is currently being excavated by an Inrap team. Curated by the DRAC/Ministry of Culture, this preventive research is being conducted in the context of roadworks on the Evreux bypass.

In advance of work on the Evreux city bypass, a team from the Institut National de Recherches Archéologiques Préventives (Inrap) is studying a vast site from the second Bronze Age and the Gallo-Roman period.
