An Inrap team has recently excavated a group of aligned menhirs at Veyre-Monton (Puy-de-Dôme). This research, prescribed by the State (Drac Auvergne – Rhône- Alpes), was conducted in the context of construction work by the APRR society to widen the A75 motorway. This is the first time such alignments, cairns and statuemenhirs have been discovered in Auvergne or, more broadly, in central France.

Discoveries
A team of Inrap archaeologists has just uncovered the remains of a massacre that occurred more than six-thousand years ago at Achenheim (Bas-Rhin). This important discovery illustrates one kind of violence that raged in Europe during the Neolithic.

A team of Inrap archaeologists is currently excavating a 20 hectare site in Fleury-sur-Orne. This work, curated by the State (Drac Basse-Normandie) is taking place in advance of the construction of habitation zones by Normandie Aménagement and the Caen-La-Mer agglomeration.

In advance of the construction of an industrial business park by the associated communes of Pays de Sainte Odile, Inrap has just finished a large excavation at Obernai, under the curation of the State (DRAC Alsace).

Discoveries
On the future site of the Seine-North Europe canal, a team of INRAP archaeologists have excavated the Neolithic sites of Villers-Carbonnel, under the curation of the State (Drac Picardie). This excavation, covering a surface of 4.35 hectares, has revealed an exceptional terra cotta statuette 21 cm long. Female representations of this type are very rare in France.

In advance of the construction of a housing project by Nexity Foncier Conseil, in Champagne-sur-Oise (Val-d’Oise), a team of Inrap archaeologists is excavating a one hectare surface, under the curation of the State (Drac Île-de-France).

Discoveries
The excavation of the Early Neolithic site of Buthiers-Boulancourt (Seine-et-Marne) revealed to the Inrap archaeologists the most ancient case, in France, of an amputation.This successful surgical intervention was practised, 6,900 years ago, on an elderly man. These results have just been published in the international review, Antiquity.
